It is extremely important to be cautious and attentive at all times when burning candles. According to the National Candle Association, more than 15,000 residential fires are caused each year by the improper use of candles. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission conducted a study and found that 85 percent of candle fires could be avoided if consumers followed basic safety rules:
Ceremony
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
When using candles during a ceremony always assign someone within your wedding party to keep a watchful eye on the candles and extinguish them after the ceremony. If you have candles being used in the front of the venue as well as the back of the venue be sure to have the proper amount of wedding party members available to keep watch over the candles.
Provide proper tools to wedding party members that will enable both proper and safe lighting and extinguishing of candles.
During the ceremony never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire.
Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. When deciding where to place the candles during the ceremony be mindful of children who are in the wedding party and those who be attending as guests.
Reception
Same as above
When deciding where guests tables will be placed ensure that there will be no candles in close proximity to the dance floor.
Glass Candle Holders
It is also important that you only burn candles in glass holders that are specifically made for candle burning. Glass votive candle holders come in a variety of shapes, styles, and colors. Glass votive candle holders can add a nice touch to your decor, while making your candles burn longer and keeping your home safe.
