First a little history
Located approximately 30 miles Southwest of Fort Worth, Texas on US Highway 377, Granbury was founded in the 1860's starting out with a town square and a log cabin court house. Many of those same buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, built in 1886, which still hosts Broadway productions. The city name originated from the Confederate General Hiram B. Granbury. The historic Hood County courthouse located in the center of the square in Granbury was constructed in 1890-91 with limestone. In 2000 the exterior was restored.
Granbury and Hood County are rich in Texas history. David (Davy) Crockett's wife, Elizabeth, settled in Hood County following the Texas Revolution against Mexico. Crockett, as well as other Alamo participants, received land grants. The Crockett family received land in what is now Hood County. Elizabeth Crockett is buried in Acton State Historic Site, the smallest state park in Texas. A large statue of Elizabeth Crockett marks her grave site. Several of Crockett's descendants still reside in Hood County.

Items you need to bring:
Certified birth certificate or a valid drivers license, U.S. Passport, military ID card, your Social Security number
If you are from outside the United States, a passport will work.
From the date of issuance of a marriage license, the marriage license is good for 30 days and may be used anywhere in Texas.
The marriage license cannot be used for 72 hours from the date of issuance unless 1 (one) applicant is on active duty in the Armed Forces.
Residency Requirement:
Neither one of you have to be a resident of Texas. If you are looking for a great place to hold your wedding Texas is perfect for a destination wedding!
Pre-marital Education:
In Texas, couples are encouraged to attend a premarital education course that is at least four hours duration. It must be finished during the year preceding applying for a marriage license. Contact the county clerk for a roster of area course providers.
Previous Marriage:
If divorced within thirty days, Texas requires that you show a certified copy of your divorce decree stating the 30 day waiting period is waived.
NOTE: Effective September 2008, the license fee will be waived if a couple takes an 8-hour premarital preparation course that covers important marital skills and issues such as conflict management and communication.
Applicants are required to provide proof of age and identity. Any valid, current, and correct document issued by this state, another state, the U. S. Government, or a foreign government, which establishes identity and age. The applicants must also know their social security number.
